Plymouth Eastern Turnpike Road                        (updated 245th Sept 2013)

This trust, created in 1757, was responsible for the section of the London to Plymouth Post Road as far as Brent Bridge to the east of Plymouth (the roads to the north and west of Plymouth were taken into the Tavistock and Saltash Trusts). It cooperated in the improvements made to the whole of the Exeter to Plymouth road in 1820.

List of Roads

Plymouth Road; UC road from Ebrington Street, along Lipson Road, then along Lipson Vale as B3214, through Laira to join the A38, then as B3416 as Plymouth Road to Plympton St Mary, then straight on as UC road Ridgeway, around Plympton to rejoin A38 , continuing on the old line of the A38 and by-passed UC sections to Ivybridge, then B3213 to South Brent (with a section of A38) (about 16 miles)

Milepost Plympton Typical milepost erected by Plymouth Eastern Trust. This one is in Plympton St Mary – note the similarity to those used on the Torpoint Ferry Road Liskeard Trust) –  suggests these were from a period when Plymouth Highways Board was exerting influence.
